Olivebridge House

Perched on a ridge overlooking the Ashokan Range in the Catskill Mountains, this house captures the spectacular view in the distance and forms intimate courtyard spaces that mediate between the interiors and surrounding grounds. The immediate outdoor areas will be lushly landscaped, leaving the rest of the five-acre site largely untouched.

Approaching via a steeply inclined drive, visitors arrive at the house and encounter fieldstone-clad walls that frame an entry courtyard. Inside, an open kitchen and dining and living areas form the heart of the house and, along with the primary bedroom, are oriented toward the view. Secondary bedrooms and other spaces are arrayed to frame an intimate courtyard that is also accessible from the living room.

In addition to the stone cladding, the exterior of the house is finished with a vertical rain screen of stained cedar boards. At the entry, the stone cladding extends inside, where its texture contrasts with the polished concrete floor. A stone-paved terrace extends the primary living spaces to the outdoors.
